Payment Links

Learn how to setup payment links on Leatherback.

Leatherback payment links are designed to simplify how you collect funds from customers globally.

Payment Links are the fastest, no-code way to collect payments from your customers. By sharing a simple URL, you allow customers to pay via their preferred method without needing an active website or complex API integration.

Once a payment is completed, the funds (less applicable fees) are automatically credited to your Settlement Account.

Payment Link Archetypes

Leatherback supports two broad categories of links designed to fit different business models.

1. One-Time Links

As the name implies, these links are single-use. Once a customer completes a payment, the link expires.

This model is ideal for:

  • Specific invoices
  • Unique service charges
  • One-off payments

2. Reusable Links

These links remain active and can be used by multiple customers over time.

Reusable links are divided into two types.

Static Links

The payment amount is fixed.

Examples include:

  • "Buy Me a Coffee" style links
  • Standard subscription fees
  • Fixed-price services

Dynamic Links

The link itself remains the same, but the payment amount can vary per request.

This model is especially useful for:

  • Bulk payment requests sent via API
  • Variable invoice amounts
  • Flexible donation or contribution payments

Merchants can generate Leatherback payment links directly from the Fusion Portal and share them with customers to collect payments instantly. Alternatively, they can integrate Leatherback’s Direct Integration APIs into their systems to create payment links programmatically and begin accepting payments through a fully automated workflow.

Process Flow Overview

The following sequence outlines how a transaction moves from initiation to final settlement between you and your customer:

Onboarding: To begin, create a Leatherback account and complete the necessary KYC (Know Your Customer) requirements to activate your collections capabilities.

Transaction Initiation: Initiate a transaction through your preferred integration method—whether it's a manual link from the dashboard, our SDKs, or a direct API call. At this stage, you can choose between a Reusable or One-time link type.

Link Distribution: Share the generated payment link with your customer via SMS, Email, or other messaging channels.

Customer Payment: The customer opens the link and completes the payment using their preferred channel (such as Bank Transfer, Card, or Pay with Account).

Monitoring: You can track the real-time status of the payment directly from your Leatherback Dashboard.

Final Settlement: Once verified, Leatherback settles the payment amount—less any applicable taxes or fees—directly into your account.

Regional Payment Methods

The Leatherback Checkout supports multiple payment methods, giving customers the flexibility to complete transactions using their preferred option. This flexibility improves the checkout experience and helps maintain conversion rates by providing alternative payment channels if one method experiences downtime or reduced success rates.

For example, if card payments are temporarily unavailable, customers can seamlessly complete the transaction using Pay by Transfer instead.

Available payment channels are determined by the transaction currency, ensuring that customers are presented with the most relevant payment options for their region.
